SADC region gearing up to host 45th ordinary summit heads of state

Southern African Development Community (SADC) region is getting ready to host its 45th ordinary summit heads of state and government this month in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

This marks a significant moment for the island nation that became member state of SADC in August 2005. It’s hosted under the theme, ‘Advancing industrialization, agricultural transformation and energy transition for a resilient SADC’.

The summit will focus on accelerating regional integration, strengthening industrial capacity and regional value chains.

During the summit, President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina will take over as the chairperson of SADC. He will succeed Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The gathering will review progress in the implementation of the SADC regional indicative strategic development plan, and consider the report from the chairperson of the organ on politics, defense and security cooperation.

SADC leaders will also review the decisions taken by the previous summit in Zimbabwe, Harare.

As the supreme policy-making body of SADC, the Summit sets strategic priorities for regional cooperation, integration, and development.
