Kuleba begins third African tour amid worsening global food crisis

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba will visit the African continent for the third time amid the worsening global food crisis following Russia's withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, with a tour that begins today in Equatorial Guinea.

In a statement, the ministry stated that Kuleba's visit to Equatorial Guinea today and tomorrow is the first to that country in the history of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

In the capital, Malabo, the minister will hold talks with the country's leaders on developing bilateral relations, increasing trade volume, ensuring food security in Africa, and supporting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's Peace Formula.

"The development of relations with African countries strengthens the global coalition supporting Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression and creates new opportunities for Ukrainian businesses and citizens," the statement emphasized.

In January 2022, Ukraine approved its Africa strategy, within the framework of which the President, the Foreign Ministry, and parliamentary diplomacy significantly intensified contacts with African countries.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister's first African tour took place in October last year, when he traveled to Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Kenya, and his second in May this year, with visits to Morocco, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Mozambique, and Nigeria.

Kuleba's third African tour is a continuation of the African strategy and "the revival of Ukrainian-African relations," the ministry added.
