Africa takes all the spoils at the Mexico City Half Marathon

Africa takes all the spoils at the Mexico City Half Marathon

With the starting gun fired at the iconic Torre del Caballito, 30,000 runners shook off their fears and began the journey together in the 2025 Mexico City Half Marathon, a very special edition, as it celebrated the 700th anniversary of the founding of Mexico-Tenochtitlán.

Spurred on by cheers and improvised signs, family and friends of the competitors waited for the athletes' every step.

The race saw, after 21 kilometers, the winner in the men's elite category was Martin Magengo, from Uganda, who crossed the finish line at the Angel of Independence with a record time for the race (one hour, three minutes and 22 seconds), followed by Kenyans Edwin Kiprop (1:03:28) and Leonard Langat (1:05:49).

The glory of the competition, which is certified by World Athletics, went —in the women's branch— to Marion Kibor, from Kenya, with a time of one hour, 12 minutes and 48 seconds, followed by her compatriot Dayzy Rutto (1:15:36) and the Mexican Mirrell García Barrios, (1:19:19), who obtained the second and third places in this test, respectively.

With determination, technique, and heart, several tricolor runners positioned themselves among the best in the event, with Jorge Luis Cruz Pérez standing out, finishing fourth with a time of one hour, seven minutes, and 49 seconds. However, I have vowed to return next year.
